Sophie Hutchings Live

Gotobeat and Classical Unlocked are excited to present Sophie Hutchings live in London at Piano Smithfield on Thursday, October 29.

Rich with emotion, texture, and contrast, as propulsive and powerful as it is elegant and intimate, Sophie’s live shows create an atmosphere of deep stillness that translates beautifully to international stages. Alongside celebrated works from A World Outside and the meditative, single-take focus of Become The Sky, these upcoming performances will feature exclusive, unreleased live renditions created specifically for this tour.

babatunde hip hopera - UK Debut

What happens when the power of opera collides with hip-hop?

Nigerian-American baritone Babatunde Akinboboye is the creator of Hip Hopera - a genre-defying fusion of classical opera and hip-hop that has brought him a global audience in the millions. Now, for the first time, he brings it to the UK.

Babatunde first went viral after blending Rossini’s Largo al Factotum with Kendrick Lamar’s HUMBLE., amassing more than 10 million views and attracting international attention from TIME, Classic FM and beyond.

But Hip Hopera is more than a viral moment. A classically trained baritone who has performed with Los Angeles Opera, Detroit Opera and Utah Opera, Babatunde combines extraordinary operatic vocals with the rhythm, storytelling and cultural language of hip-hop - creating a live performance that sits somewhere entirely its own.

Following performances across the US, including SXSW Austin and a City Winery tour, Babatunde makes his UK debut in London, presented by Classical Unlocked.

Harrogate festival: Alexandra Whittingham & Vulva Voce

Vulva Voce is a band which rewrites the ‘string quartet’ as we know it. Taking influence from folk, jazz, classical, techno and funk, they write original music which honours women’s stories from throughout history. Alongside their originals, they perform music from the 1500s right up to the present day. They reference the music of the first ever published woman composer, Maddalena Casulana and take inspiration from the warrior queen of the Iceni Tribe, Boudicca.

Recognised by The Guardian as “a young 21st-century virtuoso”, Alexandra Whittingham is rapidly redefining the role of the classical guitarist in today’s musical landscape. Recent highlights include a performance at the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic for Classic FM Live, a UK tour with duo partner Stephanie Jones, and a 43-date North American tour as part of International Guitar Night.
