What happens when the power of opera collides with hip-hop?
Nigerian-American baritone Babatunde Akinboboye is the creator of Hip Hopera - a genre-defying fusion of classical opera and hip-hop that has brought him a global audience in the millions. Now, for the first time, he brings it to the UK.
Babatunde first went viral after blending Rossini’s Largo al Factotum with Kendrick Lamar’s HUMBLE., amassing more than 10 million views and attracting international attention from TIME, Classic FM and beyond.
But Hip Hopera is more than a viral moment. A classically trained baritone who has performed with Los Angeles Opera, Detroit Opera and Utah Opera, Babatunde combines extraordinary operatic vocals with the rhythm, storytelling and cultural language of hip-hop - creating a live performance that sits somewhere entirely its own.
Following performances across the US, including SXSW Austin and a City Winery tour, Babatunde makes his UK debut in London, presented by Classical Unlocked.
